Commercial transportation companies that only conduct operations within the state of Ohio are considered intrastate and are granted authority to operate by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio or PUCO. The registration period begins on July 16th and ends on July 15th of the following year.
You will need to complete and submit an application for Registration of Motor Carriers Operating Instrastate For Hire In Ohio, along with payment to the PUCO at:

There is an annual per fee per vehicle and you are required to have a minimum of $350,000 bodily injury and property damage liability insurance. Permits must be displayed on all vehicle used for Ohio intrastate for-hire transportation.
Household Goods Carriers
Household Goods Carriers must complete and submit:
- For-Hire Intrastate Motor Carrier Registration Application
- Filing fee
- Proof of Insurance

Processing time is 7-10 business days. Renewal applications are mailed in May and must be returned before the June 30th expiration date.
